Fact or Myth? The Animals of Halloween

Halloween is fast becoming a favourite holiday here in the UK, with many of us throwing parties, dressing up, playing games and enjoying delicious sweets and treats. It is also a holiday with lots of creepy wildlife associated with it; from toads, to bats, owls and spiders... but just how creepy are they?

The Northern White Rhino is nearing extinction after two males died at the tail end of last year - leaving just one elderly male, known as Sudan. The beautiful Sudan is protected 24 hours a day by armed guards and has been stripped of his horn to make him less attractive to poachers.

The art of camouflage

Different kinds of animals use different kinds of biology to change their colouration: in some cases it is gradual and in keeping with the seasons, whilst other animals have evolved to change their colour in a split second and without a moment's hesitation. I find this absolutely fascinating and often marvel at the art of what is essentially camouflage.

The continual revolution that is evolution...

Being a Shrewsbury lad born and bred, and a lover of animals, I would be lying if I said I wasn't totally in awe and inspired by the work of the great Charles Darwin! I often find myself pondering the processes of evolution and how it is truly a natural and wonderful thing.
